Visit to coastal areas can be hugely enriching however they require additional consideration in the planning stages. This type of visit includes the following areas:

  • Cliff top and coastal paths
  • Beach/rock pools
  • Tidal areas
  • Causeways
  • Harbours

In some locations it can be important to be able to assess the dangers using specific technical or local knowledge. The Visit Leader must prepare a risk assessment detailing any significant hazards and how they will be controlled.

Approval should be given initially by the Head of Establishment before being submitted to the local authority to confirm the safety of the coastal element.
