Toolkits: Exchange Visits and Home Stays

This Toolkit contains additional guidance documents for planning visits that may have an exchange or home stay element. Section 11.22 also includes considerations for overseas visits that entail accommodating participants with host families.

Below you can access a checklist for hosts, a personal safety checklist & information for briefing parent’s and participants.

Further information about Overseas Visits (Chapter 11) should also be consulted and the Overseas toolkit  includes generic and worked examples of risk assessments & visit plan checklists, all of which can be downloaded and edited. The British Council also provide a useful toolkit & planning information for visits that include an exchange element.

The safeguarding and protection of children is central to any school exchange trip. Before you start planning an exchange visit, establishments and visit leaders should also consult & check their LA guidance regarding safeguarding policies, vetting & disclosure of host families and any additional required child protection procedures for Exchange visits.
